Emergency Dialing Services
Currently Provided by WireSpeed
WireSpeed is addressing 911 services for all of its customers.
WireSpeed offers the same 911 services as a traditional business
phone system would in the following metropolitan areas: Chicago,
Dallas-Ft. Worth and Houston. Persons in the Chicago area will
receive 10-digit emergency service. However, there are still
inherent limitations to 911 in all business phone systems.
Should you lose power or connectivity to your location or move
the phone from the original assigned working address, 911 will
not work. For those located outside of the Dallas-Ft. Worth,
Houston, and Chicago areas, 911 is not presently supported. If
you are outside of these supported areas and you require 911
services immediately, WireSpeed recommends installing a local
phone company line to support 911. WireSpeed will provide
911-coverage for all customers in the United States and Canada
within the next three months. WireSpeed recommends that all
companies evaluate their complete emergency communications plan
including VoIP, cellular and supplemental analog emergency lines
to ensure the safety of their employees.
Areas Where Emergency Services
May Not be Available
WireSpeed subscribers located outside of the Dallas, Texas and
Houston, Texas metropolitan areas are not currently receiving
any 911, E911, or other emergency dialing services from
WireSpeed. Emergency dialing services also are not available to
customers located outside of the United States. WireSpeed is in
the process of implementing changes to its network that will
enable it to make E911 services available to all of its
subscribers. WireSpeed will notify its subscribers once such
services are available.
Limitations on Emergency Services
in Areas Where Available
Even in the Dallas and Houston areas, where certain emergency
services are now available (as described above), E911 service is
not presently available. This means that the emergency personnel
receiving your call will not be able to identify your precise
phone number and exact physical address. WireSpeed’s Dallas and
Houston subscribers also should be aware of the following
limitations:
Updates to Service Address.
WireSpeed’s emergency response service will not route your
911 call to the correct local emergency service unless you have
registered your current address with WireSpeed. Any time that
you move or use the service from a new location, you will need
to update your service address by calling 800-WS-TELCO or
emailing it E911@wirespeed.com. Once you notify WireSpeed of the
updated address, it may take up to 21 days for all appropriate
systems to be updated. Until this process is completed, your 911
calls using WireSpeed’s service will continue to be directed to
the local emergency service provider for the physical address
previously provided to WireSpeed.
Updates to Phone Number(s).
WireSpeed’s 911 dialing services will not function if you change
your phone number or if you add or port new phone numbers to
your account, unless and until you register your location of use
for each changed, newly added, or newly ported phone number.
Automated Number and Location
Identification. As noted above, when you dial 911 using
WireSpeed’s service, the local emergency personnel receiving
your call will not be able to identify your precise phone number
or the exact physical address from which you are calling.
Therefore, you will need to provide your phone number and
address in order to receive emergency assistance.
Power or Broadband Service
Outages. A power or broadband service outage will prevent
all WireSpeed services from functioning, including the dialing
of 911. Should there be an interruption in the power supply,
WireSpeed’s emergency dialing and other services will not
function until power is restored. A power failure or disruption
may require you to reset or reconfigure equipment prior to
utilizing your WireSpeed service. In addition, WireSpeed’s
emergency dialing services will not function if your equipment
fails or is not configured correctly.
Network Congestion or Reduced
Routing Speed. There may be a greater possibility of network
congestion and/or reduced routing speed in the routing of a 911
call utilizing WireSpeed’s service as compared to 911 dialing
over traditional public telephone networks.
Suspension or Termination of
Your WireSpeed Account. Service outages due to suspension or
termination of your account will prevent all service, including
the dialing of 911, from functioning. Alternative 911
Arrangements
Subscribers that are not
currently receiving 911 services from WireSpeed (i.e., customers
located outside of the Dallas and Houston areas) and subscribers
that are not comfortable with the limitations described above
should secure an alternate means of accessing traditional 911 or
E911 services. You also are urged to inform any employees,
contractors, visitors, and other third persons who may be
present at the physical location where WireSpeed’s service is
utilized of the unavailability of or limitations on emergency
dialing and response services.
